Almost six months to the day, sheriff's traffic detectives have arrested a suspect in the June 9 hit and run collision that killed Costco pharmacist Robb Long.

Christopher J. Lynch, 23, of 6103 E. 8th, was booked into the Spokane County Jail last Thursday, Dec. 7, on a felony count of vehicular homicide.
Witnesses told police the day of the collision that the driver of the westbound Dodge Intrepid drove up and over a concrete median underneath Interstate 90 to run a red light and enter the westbound I-90 onramp.

The suspect apparently did not see Long who was eastbound on a motor scooter and approaching the intersection on a green light. Long set the motor scooter on its side in an attempt to avoid the collision.

The Intrepid missed the scooter, but collided with Long, who died at the scene.

A Secret Witness reward was eventually offered for information that might help solve the case.

A series of tips led to the investigation of Lynch as the primary suspect in the crime. The research eventually ended in detectives interviewing Lynch. That interview resulted in his arrest on the vehicular homicide charge.

Detectives had promised Long's grandmother that she would be the first to know if an arrest was made and they spent much of Wednesday evening locating her to announce the investigation's outcome.

Lynch was expected to make his first court appearance this week.
Secret Witness is a civilian organization that pays cash rewards for the information that solves Spokane-area crimes. Callers can reach Secret Witness at 327-5111 and do not have to give their name to collect the cash reward, but should leave a code name or number with the operator.
