Joseph French, shown here with Spokane Valley Fire Department Chief Mike Thompson, and his son Stokke, not shown, were honored by fire commissioners Monday for their efforts in stopping a fire from spreading in a Liberty Lake home last summer. The pair was reportedly driving on Molter Road when they saw smoke coming from behind a home. They ran to the door to alert the home owners, then went to the back of the house to find a fire on the back deck, which was about to spread to the inside of the house. They grabbed a garden hose and extinguished the fire, while a neighbor called firefighters.
