The city of Spokane Valley is having a party, and everyone is invited.
And since the celebration for a 5-year-old, expect cake, music, storytime and plenty of other fun and games.
“We just wanted to do something fun,” Carolbelle Branch, city spokeswoman, said.
The “casual open house” – as Branch describes it -- will take place Monday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. at CenterPlace, 2426 N. Discovery Place, just east of the Spokane Valley YMCA. The 31st marks the official fifth anniversary of incorporation of Spokane Valley.
Here’s a rundown of events:

  • 4 p.m. – Welcome and opening remarks
  • 4:20 p.m. – Mayor/City Council make wish and cut birthday cake
  • 4:30 p.m. – Acoustic music with Buffalo Jones
  • 5 p.m. – Spokane Valley Library storytelling
  • 5:30 p.m. -- East Valley School District Student Artists in Action art display and demonstration
  • 6 p.m. -- Spokane Valley Heritage Museum presentation on history of Spokane Valley
  • 6:30 p.m. – GreenAcres Miramba Ensemble from Greenacres Elementary School

There will also be plenty of displays and booths from area organizations and civic groups. Look for displays by the Spokane County Library District, city of Spokane Valley, Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort, Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, Spokane Regional Transportation Council, Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, Spokane Valley Meals on Wheels, Spokane Valley Public Works Department, ValleyHUB, Spokane Valley Senior Citizens Association, Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, Valleyfest, Spokane Valley Partners, Theater Arts for Children, Spokane Valley Fire Department, Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency, International Trade Alliance, Spokane Valley Business Association, Spokane County Fire District 8, East Valley School District, Spokane Valley Arts Council, Central Valley School District and the West Valley School District.
Be sure to look inside this newspaper for a special pullout section that looks back at the incorporation of Spokane Valley.
