Local officials of the Spokane Valley area will have opportunity to share their transportation challenges and priorities with the Washington state Transportation Commission.

Transportation commissioners will meet with city, county, regional, and transit representatives next week in Spokane Valley as part of their community outreach efforts.

The meeting will be held Tuesday, June 16, at the Oxford Suites, Town Meeting Room 1, 15015 E. Indiana,  starting at 9 a.m. The meeting is open to the public, and persons wishing to speak to the commission may do so during the public comment period scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The meeting will consist of a series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level. Representatives from Spokane, Spokane County, Spokane Regional Transportation Council and Spokane Transit Authority will talk about transportation issues from a local perspective. Washington state Department of Transportation’s Region Administrator Keith Metcalf will provide a presentation about the North Spokane Corridor.

The commission will participate in a panel discussion with members of the Idaho Transportation Board and Idaho Department of Transportation. The focus of this discussion will be on freight mobility and economic development.
The Washington state Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the state of Washington.
