Danika Packard, the 2-year-old struck by a suspected drunken driver on July 21, went home from the hospital on July 25 and is recovering well.
Meanwhile, search warrants were issued on July 26 on a 2003 Honda Element driven by the suspect, 22-year-old Timmy Nguyen, and his medical records at Spokane Valley Hospital and Medical Center, where he was briefly treated the night of his arrest.
Nguyen is out of jail and has pleaded innocent on charges of vehicular assault and hit-and-run. Investigators believe he ran over the bicycle trailer that Packard was riding in while being pulled over by her father on Maringo Drive. Nguyen is alleged to have turned off of Argonne Road at a high rate of speed before the collision and then did not stop after striking her.
A witness followed Nguyen back to a party that he had been at previously at an apartment complex. Authorities were called, and Nguyen was placed under arrest.
Nguyen was also apparently uncooperative after being taken to an area hospital for a blood sample.
Spokane County sheriff’s investigators also would like to speak with attendees of a party the night of the incident at the Pasadena Apartments clubhouse. None of the attendees are in any kind of trouble or are in danger of being arrested, investigators said. However, law enforcement would like to get more information on Nguyen’s actions leading up to the collision.
