The search is on for a new member of the Spokane Valley City Council.
Applications are now being accepted for council Position 1, which will be vacated by Brenda Grassel on Dec. 31.
The appointment will only be temporary, however – he or she, if wishing to keep the post, will have to run in the November 2013 general election.
Applicants must be a resident of Spokane Valley for at least a year prior to the appointment and must be a registered voter. Council members serve at large.
Grassel is moving out of the city limits, and so will no longer be eligible to serve.
Applications must be received by the city clerk no later than 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013. Late arriving mail will not be accepted.
Applications may be hand-delivered or mailed to:
Spokane Valley City Hall
11707 E. Sprague Ave. Suite 106
Spokane Valley, WA 99206
Applications can be found at the city’s Web site, www.spokanevalley.org or by calling 720-5102.
E-mailed or faxed applications will not be accepted.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled to begin on Jan. 29. Selected applicants will be notified of the exact date and time of the interview once all the applications have been received.
The formal appointment is tentatively set for the Feb. 5 council meeting. Council members have 90 days from Grassel’s departure to fill the post, otherwise the job will fall to Spokane County commissioners.
