Spokane County commissioners voted to expand a no-shooting area in the Newman Lake and Mica Peak areas Tuesday.
Neighbors have complained to county officials that gun aficionados have left litter, damaged property and trees, and generally make them feel unsafe.
The area encompasses 553 acres along Koth Road near Newman Lake, and another 435 along Starr Road near Mica Peak.
Although Commissioner Al French was not present for the vote, colleagues Shelly O’Quinn – who represents Spokane Valley’s District 2 – and Todd Mielke were in agreement on the ban.
The recommendation came from the No Shooting Area Advisory Committee, which had a public hearing on the subject.
