Al French is taking another turn as board chairman in Spokane County.
At Tuesday’s regular meeting, the Spokane County Board of Commissioners unanimously elected French (District 3) to be the 2014 chairman and Todd Mielke (District 1) as vice chairman.
Prior to being elected to the Spokane City Council in 2002 and the Board of County Commissioners in 2010, French served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the region (Downtown Spokane Partnership, County Growth Management Act Steering Committee and Spokane Transit Authority).
With more than 35-years’ experience as a businessman, architect, investment consultant, and developer French has both attracted and assisted new businesses in the region and continues to use that experience as a county commissioner.
Mielke has a diverse professional background, first owning an excavation business in Spokane and later a government affairs consulting firm. Mielke also served in the Washington state House of Representatives beginning in1990 and is currently the immediate past president of the Washington State Association of Counties.
Mielke also serves on the WSAC Legislative Steering Committee and is an officer with the National Association of County Officials.
