Sprague, Argonne work to begin

05/09/2014

By MIKE HUFFMAN
Managing Editor

Construction work on Argonne and Sprague is scheduled to begin mid-May and continue into July, weather dependent.
The project will create a smoother and safer driving surface, upgrade sidewalks and curbs to meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, and upgrade stormwater drainage. The work will occur in four segments: Sprague from University to Herald, Argonne from Broadway to Sprague, Sprague from I-90 to Theirman, and Sprague from Havana to I-90.

While the projects are underway there will be lane reductions, lane closures, and brief driveway/sidewalk closures.  In all construction areas, access to businesses will remain available and crews will contact those affected by sidewalk and driveway closures. Contact STA at 328-RIDE (7433) for bus stop modification during construction and to find bus stop alternatives.

Construction on the first segment, Sprague from University to Herald, will begin on May 12 and continue until mid-June.  Sprague will be reduced to two lanes westbound around the clock with brief sidewalk and driveway closures. For two weeks in mid-July Sprague will again be reduced to two lanes westbound and there will be possible overnight closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for pavement resurfacing.

Argonne from Broadway to Sprague will be reduced to one lane southbound around the clock with brief sidewalk and driveway closures from mid-May to mid-July. There will be possible overnight closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning in early July to mid-July for pavement resurfacing.

Sprague from I-90 to Thierman will be reduced to two lanes westbound and one lane southbound with brief sidewalk and driveway closures from mid-June to early July. There will be closures of Westbound Sprague between Thierman and I-90, including the westbound I-90 ramp, for several nights during early July to mid-July for pavement resurfacing.

Finally, Sprague from Havana to I-90 will be reduced to one lane in each direction around the clock with brief sidewalk and driveway closures from late June to early July. Fancher Road at Sprague and the I-90 Fancher on and off ramps (Exit 285) will be closed several nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. in late June to early July for eastbound pavement resurfacing.

Those whose destinations are outside the project areas may wish to use alternative routes as traffic delays and congestion are expected.
